The title of Lawrence Venuti's famous work, The Translator's Invisibility, alludes to both the ideal function of the translator in respect to the author and the translated text, and, at the same time, ironically describes the extent to which the translator can expect to be complemented on his/her arduous task.

This collection of reviews shows exactly the attitude of critics towards the translator. At best, one can hope for being invisible. At worst, even mistakes of the editor will be blamed on the poor translator.

You have been warned.
