This course will present a variety of approaches to literary translation. Beginning with the instructor's own experience as translator, reader, and researcher, it will then discuss the various functions that translation performs, or tries to perform, in society, its culture and politics. In this heavy task, it hopes for the spiritual guidance and intercession on the part of the patron saint of the discipline, St. Jerome, the translator of the Bible.
