4.     Alphonse wakes on the ground (3). Meets the Cabalist; back at inn; they finds the relic, leave for Madrid by a different road. The Inquisition ambush Don Pedro Velazquez, logician-mathematician. All ride to the Cabalist's castle. Alphonse finds manuscript; Cabalist angry at sister Rebecca. Rebecca reads in Alphonse's palm his love for demons. Arrival of gypsies led by Senor Avadoro. (1:08:30)

4.1.           Avadoro's story. Asked by a jealous husband to spy on his wife, he instead warns her; she gives him a message to Captain Toledo. Avadoro meets Toledo. (1:29:30)

9.     Alphonse is writing down the story in the manuscript. "Two foreign ladies". Manuscript abandoned at the inn; Alphonse gallops away into the hills. (2:52:15)
