Radoslaw Uliszak "Problems of Spatial and Structural Changes of Agriculture in Southern Poland According to Experiences of West European Countries" - summary
Polish version
The main aim is to show the possibility of changes in the agriculture of Southern Poland based on the socio-economic state of farms in this region and on the development of new gainful non-agricultural activities realised through multifunctional development of the countryside. The possibility of using the experiences of West European countries in their restructuring of agriculture are discussed.
Range: The study involves 302 rural communes and 90 towns in Southern Poland during the 1986-1999 period. It is based on analyses of agricultural indicators, their changes and local resource typology of the communes. Investigations were carried out according to similar conditions of restructuring of the agriculture sector. Scenarios for 6 types of rural communes were produced:
a) development based on agricultural activities (type 1, 2 and 3 on the map below);
b) development where agriculture will give way to multifunctionalism based on commuting to the nearest towns and on OGA development in the communes (type 4 and 5);
c) development based on tourism, recreation and forest economy (type 6). The scenarios produced should be important elements of the development schemes for the communes.
